There, Sir Yehudi—later Lord Menuhin of Stoke d’Abernon—happily played the role of elder (musical) statesman, freely indulging what the skeptical Alexander Waugh called his “love and peace waffle.” (Of Menuhin’s deep-seated streak of self-righteousness his brother-in-law once remarked, “Very few people interested Yehudi.

This CD is reissued by ArkivMusic. Notes and Editorial Reviews. It is encouraging that Sir Yehudi Menuhin is venturing into symphonic VW territory. Like most musicians who have made their name in one branch of the art, he has encountered some disparaging, occasionally hostile, criticism since he took up conducting, but whatever his stick.

Yehudi Menuhin was born in New York City to a family of Lithuanian Jews. Through his father Moshe, a former rabbinical student and anti-Zionist, he was descended from a distinguished rabbinical dynasty. In late , Moshe and his wife Marutha (née Sher) became American citizens, and changed the family name from Mnuchin to Menuhin.

      (12) The maestro and the queen In the famous violin virtuoso Yehudi Menuhin was sitting in his osteopath’s office waiting for his appointment when a small book on yoga caught his eye. He was already suffering from a variety of the muscle and skeletal aches and pains that have ruined the career of many a budding string player.
