Although Saint Bartlett echoes absolute talents of singer/songwriter past, the album still feels modern, and most importantly, still feels personal. This is a Damien Jurado album, through and through. No question. The ability to produce music under these guidelines, with genuine ingenuity, free of mimicry or gimmicks, is a rare feat/5(20).

On My Way To Absence has ultimately become what Jurado refers to as "a tribute to jealousy". It approaches a dangerous ledge and by the album's end, with the powerful "A Jealous Heart is a Heavy Heart", the listener is left somewhat dangling in a scary place.

I'd call this Jurado's best since 'Ghost of David' - it follows through on what 'I Break Chairs' promised I'd call this Jurado's best since 'Ghost of David' - it follows through on what 'I Break Chairs' promised without losing the narrative sense of 'Where Shall You Take Me' - I think the big name reviewers dropped the ball on this one - one of his best and one of the best of the year so far. .

Apr 05,  · Not my favorite Jurado record, it's representative of both earlier and later work, as a sort of "transitional" album. When I put my Damien Jurado compilation together, "Night Out for the Downer", "Icicle" and "Sucker" will be on it, and maybe others. Not as absorbing as ST/5(7).
